A unique team within the CCN landscape, Aina Alegre, a Catalan artist, and Yannick Hugron, a French dancer, have partnered to create a unique project for the CCN de Grenoble, drawing on the strength of their diverse backgrounds.

Aina Alegre came to France to study at the Cndc in Angers, and soon embarked on a career as a choreographer, dancer and comedian. In 2014, she founded her company in Paris: STUDIO FICTIF. With about ten creations to her name, she produced her first major work for 9 performers, THIS IS NOT (an act of love & resistance) in December 2022, followed by a large-scale production with 100 amateur dancers for the Marseille festival in June 2023. Her approach involves an anthropological study of movement, inspired by the motions that mark collective events, celebrations and rites. Her research frequently explores the concepts of a shared body, the interdependency of bodies and the rhythm of movement (hammered movement, measure, music). Alegre now collaborates with many composers and light artists, who contribute to the plasticity of her creations and enhance the fictional aspects of her work.

Yannick Hugron, a performer who has worked with several choreographers, has experienced many different dance aesthetics. He is currently collaborating with Marion Carriau, Alban Richard, and Aina Alegre. His extensive career as a choreographic artist includes roles as a costume designer and scenographer, which have driven him to reflect upon the trade and its fragile longevity. His perspective now feeds into the project of the CCN de Grenoble.

Considering all the obstacles that choreographers must overcome is the driving force behind the duo’s thinking. With this in mind, and to meet the challenges that all CCNs face, they decided to try out a dual co-management system, combining their visions as a dancer and a female artist. This shapes a place that should “adapt” rather than “manage”. Even though the project is still in its early stages, it already encompasses all the aspects of choreographic art. The underlying objective here is to shed light on other professions, outside dance and choreography: dramaturgy, dance writing, costumes, light creations, visual arts, sound creations but also administration, production and communication. By emphasising the collective momentum that supports any creative project, Aina Alegre and Yannick Hugron envision the CCN de Grenoble as a venue dedicated to creative flows and porous, horizontal openness. It focuses on movements that shape the social arena and reshuffles the missions of training, awareness-raising, and local anchorage.

The venue

Grenoble is one of the first centres to be established in the history of CCNs. Over 40 years, it had only two management teams before Aina Alegre and Yannick Hugron arrived in 2023, giving it ample time to develop its unique identity and robust partnership network.

Established in 1984 and located in the Maison de la Culture in Grenoble (now the MC2 : Grenoble), which opened in 1968 for the Winter Olympics in France, the CCN de Grenoble quickly knew how to make the most out of the vibrant Scène nationale, thanks to the long-lasting and dynamic management of Jean-Claude Gallotta (1984–2015). Over 30 years, Gallotta created more than 60 works that have been performed worldwide, contributing significantly to the rise and prominence of the new French dance”.

Starting in 2015, his successors Yoann Bourgeois and Rachid Ouramdane, then Yoann Bourgeios alone (2021–2022), brought a spirit of artistic innovation and openness between disciplines. They introduced an unprecedented mix of choreographic and circus arts, transforming the centre into a true laboratory for participative creations, while striving to disseminate their works through public rehearsals and large-scale artistic events, such as the Grand Rassemblement (the Great Meeting).
